Largemouth Yellowfish
“Largies,” as they are fondly referred to, are undoubtedly the most sought-after freshwater game fish in South Africa. These hard-fighting fish are true apex predators, reaching sizes of over 30lbs, although even an 8lb fish will test tackle and nerves. Fly fishing for largies is the focus of this trip.
Smallmouth Yellowfish
“Smallies,” as they are fondly referred to, are found in exceptionally good numbers on this section of the river. Although not the primary focus of this trip, trophy smallmouth yellowfish are caught daily on streamers when fishing for largies and are targeted in the thin water between the prime largie beats. Fishing dry flies and nymphs for smallies provides a great distraction and break from the intense focus of largie fishing.
